Album Of The Month - December 2015
Kid Wave - 'Wonderlust'
Kid Wave is an international two girl / two boy indie quartet based in London.
The band started life in 2013 as the project of Swedish singer songwriter Lea Emmery. She first enlisted old friend and fellow Swede Mattias Bhatt (guitars) to the band. This was followed by the addition of Australian Serra Petale (drums) and the line up was completed by Brit Harry Deacon (bass).
Debut album 'Wonderlust was released on 1st June 2015 by Heavenly Records. The 11 track release is a stunning collection of beautifully crafted, catchy and melodic songs. Haunting vocals, jangly guitar riffs and striking rhythmic drums characterise the sound of the band. Musically there are strong associations with harmonic power pop, '90s-inspired indie and shoegaze but the sound is always inventive rather than derivative.
Listening to this album is uplifting as the music evokes a spirit of adventure, optimism and ultimately celebration. For forty minutes the world suddenly seems a much better place full of hope and infinite possibilities. That is quite an achievement in these troubled times.
'Wonderlust' is quite simply an exceptional debut album!
