Album Of The Month - December 2016
Son Of Man - 'Son Of Man'
Son Of Man is a rock band featuring former members of legendary Welsh outfit Man and Sassafras.
The group was formed by ex-Man members George Jones and Bob Richards following the sad passing of George’s father and Man founder Micky Jones. Band line up was completed with recruitment of Glenn Quinn (guitars), and three former members of Sassafras - Richie Galloni (lead vocals), Marco James (keyboards) and Ray Jones (bass).
Initially formed to pay homage to Micky Jones' music at a series of tribute concerts, the band kicked off playing a potent mix of Man classics. As time moved on they started writing and playing original material.
Son Of Man released their self titled debut album on 28th October 2016. Featuring 11 original songs, this is a cracking debut album packed full of great and invigorating music. After first few listens particular favourites are 'Otherside', 'My Only Friend' and 'Short Sharp Shock' but this could easily change because all of the tracks are so strong.
Influences abound and are wide ranging - taking in the inevitable Man references but also throwing in Steely Dan, Wishbone Ash and other classic rock bands for good measure. A definite 70s vibe here but with an updated, contemporary edge.
Let's all go 'Back Into The Future'!
