Album Of The Month - June 2019
The Gold Needles - 'Through A Window'
Back in April 2018 we featured The Gold Needles debut album 'PEARLS' as our #AlbumOfTheMonth.
Moving forward just over a year the Hull band's much anticipated second album 'Through A Window' is scheduled for release by U.S. based Jem Records on 21st June 2019.
After listening to an advance copy of the latest album a few times we had no hesitation choosing 'Through A Window' for our new #AlbumOfTheMonth. Featuring 10 songs with 8 originals written by the band and 2 covers (The Monkees - 'I'm Gonna Try' / The Lemon Pipers - 'The Shoemaker Of Leatherwear Square'), this new release is packed full of great and memorable tunes. Excellent musicianship and immaculate production combine to craft a veritable janglefest of psych inflected power pop!
In a recent interview the band revealed that when they were writing and recording they tried to produce a fictitious album that sat between 'Rubber Soul' and 'Revolver'. This focus is rewarded with a much more cohesive collection of songs that readily connect compared to the sprawling and eclectic first album (particularly the 18 track CD and digital download versions).
With a buzz of activity and positive reviews of the new album ahead of its release on both sides of the Atlantic there are encouraging signs that The Gold Needles music will deservedly be opened up to a much wider and appreciative audience.
