Album Of The Month - October 2016
Myrtle Park's Fishing Club - 'Benches'
Myrtle Park's Fishing Club is a recording project featuring permanent members Kate Stephenson (vocals and multi-instrumentalist) and John Steel (guitars and keyboards). Various guest musicians add their talents to the mix.
Debut album 'Nothing To Be Afraid Of' came about when Kate was introduced to Andrew McCrorie-Shand. Initially commissioned by him to write an EP, it became clear that there would be enough material for a whole album. Andrew teamed Kate up with John Steel and Ian Caple (engineer and producer) and together this creative partnership recorded the debut album released in 2014.
Recording sessions for second album 'Benches' took place throughout 2015 and 2016 - initially at Lil' Hauz studios and then at Trinity Heights in Newcastle. Co-produced by Kate and Fred Purser, the new collection of songs was released in September 2016.
Featuring Myrtle Park's Fishing Club's signature vocal sound and harmonies, 'Benches' is full to the brim with upbeat and instantly memorable pop songs. Favourite tunes include the title track, 'Tissue' and 'What's The Worst That Can Happen?'. Timeless, inventive and peerless songcraft.
'Benches' is a truly wonderful and uplifting album. Pure audio sunshine to help brighten up the darkest and dreariest of autumn or winter days!
